PROJECT: Grained Imprint   Residency: Leland Iron Works   Statement: The atmosphere of Leland Iron Works speaks the language of the handbuilt. From the buildings and facilities, to the trails, fire pit, and sculptures. My work sought to embody the residence environs. In the wonky, mottled, handbuilt creations, constructed late at night over talk of art, life, and food, the experience of Leland rises to the surface. In the sculptural seams, logs, and lumber, the literal surroundings are molded into the surface—captured, not unlike a photograph, forever impressed.   Materials: Clay, glaze.   Additional note: Woodfire kiln built from the ground up as work-trade for residency expenses.
